A 30-year-old bus driver from Savai'i found himself in hot water after being apprehended by police for possession of illicit drugs while on duty.

The Deputy Police Commissioner, Papali'i Monalisa Tiai Keti, confirmed this development in response to inquiries from the newspaper.

The bus driver, a resident of Salelavalu village, was taken into custody and is currently awaiting his court appearance.

The arrest came following a tip-off from a concerned citizen in Savai'i, who alerted authorities about suspicions that the driver was engaged in the sale and distribution of marijuana during his bus routes.

Upon receiving the report, the police outpost in Tuasivi responded, conducting a thorough search of both the driver and his bus.

Their search yielded damning evidence, as marijuana and small packets of methamphetamine were discovered.

Acknowledging the proactive role of the vigilant citizen, the police have encouraged others in the community to emulate this example by reporting any individuals they suspect of possessing illicit drugs.

In a separate incident, Papali'i also confirmed reports of a stoning incident along the Vaiusu and Vailoa road, with authorities being notified around 7:30 pm on Monday.

However, upon arrival at the scene, the alleged perpetrators had already fled, eluding capture as of Wednesday morning.

Expressing the importance of public cooperation in maintaining community safety, police authorities urge continued collaboration in promptly reporting such incidents.
