We all struggle sometimes in life.

Most of it is well documented.

For Fa’afetai Tumua, the relationship among their neighbors is a tough struggle.

Aged 29, Fa’afetai is a mother of one and is residing with her family at Faleasi’u uta. She caught up with the Village Voice at Nu’u where she voiced her concerns about the volatile relationships.

“For our family my husband and I used to come visit his family here at Nu’u Fou and from what I see the neighbors don’t get along.”

“Unlike our neighbors back at Faleasi’u, you get to see friendly people around the village.”

“That is usually the case because you know how it is for us in Samoa. Everyone has their own crown (tuiga) to wear.”

“In some cases people get jealous of other families being well developed.”

Faafetai believes everyone should come together.

“That is the hardest thing for us around here because we hardly get any help from neighbors.”

Fa’afetai went on to say people also steal from their neighbours.

“You see most people have lost either a TV, chair or phone which is a very bad example.”

“If this happens we ask around our neighbors for help but they usually say they haven’t seen anything.”

“I know for a fact it’s a common issue around Samoa because I’ve seen news on TV and the internet.”

Overall Fa’afetai’s family is well.

Her husband is supporting them financially while she stays home and to take their one and only child to school.

She said the cost of living might be expensive but they’ve already figured things out.

“What I like about my family is very simple. We only get to contribute to our child’s school and sometimes family fa’alavelave.”

“What my husband’s earns is enough for the three of us.”
