The Brilliant Star Montessori Pre-School at Tiapapata visited the Home of the Elders at Mapuifagalele yesterday.

Their visit was to give the Sisters as well as the elderly people, food products including monetary gifts, courtesy of the parents whose children attend the pre-school.

Principal and owner of the school, Yassamin Yazdani, said this is their annual initiative.

“The school has been running for over 20 years since 1986,” she said.

“In the beginning when we started the school, the children learned about themselves, the parts of their bodies, senses, feelings and then their families, parents, siblings and then grandparents.

“This time we have come to pay our respect to all our grandparents and great grandparents and in this case, they are almost like their grandparents. To show them that we care for them and we love them and also to make them happy when they see the young children singing and dancing and making all these noises because usually they live in a quiet area.

“So this is just to honour them and pay our respect and make them happy.

“We have been doing this initiative for more than 20 years.

“Today we brought some food products to help out with the Sisters here and also monetary gifts.

“We ask the parents to bring food in kind, so they have helped and our main aim is to make them happy. To give a day of joy and happiness to our elderly people here and it’s something that we always cherish.”

She also advised the young children of Samoa to cherish their parents and their elderly loved ones.

“The time will come when they will no longer be around and we will miss them.

“So while they are here, we ought to serve, respect and love them because these are very treasured moments.”

An elderly mother at the home, Telesia Telea, acknowledged the gifts, especially the children.

“Thank you for thinking of us,” she said.

“We are very happy today to see the young children perform and dance and sing, they all look like they are having so much fun.

“We love to see the young children because they are gifts from God.

“So today we are so blessed.”
