The driver of a vehicle that crashed into the Government’s greenhouse at Nu’u during the wee hours of Friday morning has been arrested and charged.

Larry Warren has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, says Police Superintendent Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo.

“The driver has been charged with D.U.I. of 100 milligrams of alcohol. He’s remanded on bail and is to sign at the Faleata Police Station every Friday until April 17, 2018,” said Auapa’au.

Bystanders told the Sunday Samoan that the vehicle took down the barbed wire fence before crashing into the Government’s greenhouse located in Nu’u.

According to Police, Mr. Warren, who works for the Samoa Observer, was taken to the hospital for a medical check given he suffered injuries on his face.

Mr. Warren, following the hospital check, was taken into Police custody and was released on Friday morning.

Auapa’au also appeals to members of the public to be considerate prior to taking the wheel of their vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

“The Police wishes to remind the general public about drinking and driving this public holiday and of course every day."

“It is illegal and operating a vehicle when under the influence of alcohol is a dangerous mix, so take a cab or call a friend to pick you up, but don’t drive."

“The safety of passengers and pedestrians are in every driver’s hands. Let’s be safe this Easter holiday.”
