Public servants learn about basic policy development

The Public Service Commission (P.S.C) conducted a five-day training of Basic Public Policy Development last week.

Held at the P.S.C Office, the Commission has identified this as one of the training needs required for Government Ministries and Corporations in the Public Sector.

Nineteen participants invited from the various government ministries were capacity built on awareness on how to develop policy, with key themes including:

 

• Exploring policy processes Models

• Identifying policy tools

• Exploring policy methods applications

• Describing policy analysis in the Public Sector

 

The calibre of participants that attended the training included middle management, principal officers, senior and officer levels whose line of work evolve around formulating and developing policies to guide their work. Participants positively reflected on day five on lessons learnt such as:

 

•  The training now equips every participant with new knowledge and skills learned to develop and review policies;

• The training allowed discussions to share experiences in policy development;

• The training enabled the participants to explore theories and models on policy development

 

Isaia Lautasi from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade delivered the thank you speech on behalf of the participants. 

He first acknowledged the Office of the Public Service Commission for the opportunity given enabling them to acquire new knowledge and skills during the one-week training. 

He mentioned that the participants will transferred the new knowledge and skills learned from the training to their work colleagues and applied it within their respective workplaces related activities.

 The Training was conducted by Kalena Sootagamalelagi Segi,  Principal Training and Development Consultant, with Faafetai Vaevaina, Principal Human Resource and Planning Officer, as the Co-Trainer.

During certificate presentations, Ms. Kalena Segi on behalf of Ms. Sarona Esera-Filipo, ACEO of the Public Service Commission for the Human Resource and Development Division, congratulates the participants and acknowledge their participation during the training. Again, she encouraged the participants to value the new learning and applied where necessary.
