Body of Indonesian awaiting inquest

The body of an Indonesian national is at the Motootua National Hospital awaiting a coronial inquest.

The body was brought into port last Friday by a fishing vessel with the police reporting that the deceased is a member of the vessel’s crew.

The vessel arrived at the Apia wharf and usual requirements from responding agencies were undertaken.

The Faleolo Outpost also reported a homicide case with the deceased bein a male of 25 years of age from Faleatiu and Faleasiu.

Preliminary investigation indicates that death appears to be suicide. A postmortem is schedule to confirm the cause of death. Police investigation are continuing and the matter will be referred to the Coroner for Coronial inquiries.

The police crackdown on reckless driving continues to result in more arrests with the traffic section recording seven careless driving cases, two dangerous driving and one negligent driving causing bodily injuries matter over the week.

In Savai’i the police recorded two dangerous driving cases, two careless driving and one negligent driving causing bodily injuries matter. Afega has recorded one careless driving, Lotofagā recorded two careless driving and Faleata recorded one careless driving case.

Road blocks were also done over the weekend in selected parts of Apia town area, which resulted in 13 driving-under-the-influence arrests or exceeding the limit of the alcohol breath test. Police also issued 13 warnings to drivers.

The police road blocks reinforce the Boy Racer Operation, which began on July 13. Furthermore, over the week police charged five individuals as a result of reckless driving on Saturday July 21 at Taufusi along Vaea Street.

These videos were shared by concerned members of the public on social media. The police have encouraged drivers to be more cautious on the roads and look out for the safety of pedestrians.
