It’s unfulfilled dreams that keeps you working

Meet Konelio Fiapa’itasi of Lotoso’a Saleimoa and Saga Savai’i.

When Konelio was young, his dream was to become an electrician.

Sadly, it never happened because along the way, he stopped going to school when his father got sick.

“Honestly I don’t remember the last time I had an education but all I remember is that I used to attend Don Bosco Technical Centre at Alafua,” Konelio said.

“I always told myself back then that I was going to be an electrician, I really wanted to become one.”

“But things won’t always happen for you, even when you spend your whole life planning it, dreaming about it.”

Konelio is now 21 years old and in a position to take care of his father as he is the only one his parents can rely on.

“What can I say? My parents gave me life and I couldn’t continue on with school knowing they needed someone, they needed me.”

“I love my parents and once in a while, we all got to make a sacrifice right?”

“So I gave up school. I gave up all my dreams about becoming an electrician.”

Konelio said that when his father recovered, he couldn’t afford to have their money spend on anything else other than themselves.

Even if it meant his education would not be paid for anymore, he made the choice of letting it go.

“When you’re poor or in the middle of a financial hardship, it can make you feel powerless to do anything to change it.”

“My parents meant everything to me and I would give up anything for them and I’m pretty sure they would the same for me.”

“I still believe that there will always be a time for everything.”

“I guess I can say that I had an unfulfilled dream, and I feel like that unfulfilled dream kept me alive.”
