Fusi Masina Tietie attended on behalf of the Women’s Major Group (W.M.G.). The W.M.G. has the mandate to facilitate women’s human rights and gender equality perspectives into U.N. policy processes on sustainable development.

The theme for this year was “Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world”. The set of goals that were being reviewed includes:

• Goal 1. End poverty in all its forms everywhere.

• Goal 2. End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.

• Goal 3. Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

• Goal 5. Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

• Goal 9. Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.

• Goal 14. Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development

The major role of the W.M.G. was to call on all Member States to agree on a strong Ministerial Declaration which was adopted on the last day of the forum. Central to the work carried out by the W.M.G. is pushing for Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

Goal 5 is one of the goals being reviewed and reported on during this year’s H.L.P.F.

It is essential in the quest for leaving no one behind, W.M.G. have consensus from all Member States on Goal 5 and a commitment to Women’s Human Rights so that women and girls can realize their full potentials at the same time empowering them.

According to Ms. Tietie, being involved with the W.M.G. brought about vast amount of experiences and wealth of knowledge from the women around the world who made up the group.

Ms Tietie is a member of the Y.W.C.A. Samoa and a passionate young women advocate who believes young women are the driving force of change in this changing world, and they will do amazing things.
