The joy of finally having electricity

No happiness is greater than that of a father for his children’s success.

Those are words from Sanele Timai, of Faleula and Saleimoa, a 43-year-old father who is filled with joy because his family has finally gained access to electricity.

Speaking to the Village Voice team, Mr. Timai said all is possible because of God’s help.

“We’ve been staying without the use of electricity for five whole years,” he said.

“We’ve been people who have stayed in the dark for such a long time because the only thing we could afford was a kerosene lamp.”

Mr. Timai said ever since they moved to Saleimoa, it wasn’t an easy thing for him to take care of his family because he was jobless.

Mr. Timai said he was only a farmer and up to now, he still is but one thing has changed, his hardwork of putting his children’s education first has paid off.

“I have two sons who are currently working and all thanks to them because they are the ones who have paid for our electricity to be set up.

“So I came to get some things from the land here for our house but my other son has gone to buy some of light bulbs and wires.

“I have three daughters and all of them are still in school.

“So far, I am so proud of my children’s achievements. Extremely proud really.

“I couldn’t get electricity back then for them but I feel blessed to see my two boys, working hard and making things happening for our family.

“All that’s been happening, it gives me great joy because these people are my own flesh and blood.

“My children knew how we struggled without electricity, because I always had to pay our water bills first whenever I get money. To me, that’s one thing that I didn’t want my family to live without.

“So no matter how much we wanted electricity back then, my focus was on water.

“All good things come to those who wait so I’m grateful to God for everything we had back then and everything we have now.”
