Five males were charged with possession of narcotics last week. 

This was confirmed by Police Spokesperson Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu during his weekly conference with the media last Thursday.

“The first incident is an employed 24-year-old male from one of the villages at Vaimauga,” he said.

“One of his fellow workers contacted the police in regard to the employee who was suspected of being in possession of marijuana.

“Police responded to the call, searched him and found 4 marijuana cigarettes.

“He was brought to the police office and he is now on bail to wait for his court appearance on the 3rd of April with the condition that he has to sign in at the police station until the day of his court case.”

In a separate matter, two males are in custody over charges of possession of narcotics.

These two males are from Savaii.

According to Su’a the two are aged 21 and 23.

“The two came in the 11 o’clock ferry and were scheduled to return to Savaii on the 5pm ferry,” he said.

“Police went over and searched them and found 117 cigarettes of marijuana and 9 branches.

“They are scheduled to appear in court on the 10th of April.”

In another case of possession of narcotics, another male from Savaii is in custody over the same charges.

“The accused was found by the police holding 49 branches, eight cigarettes and eight seeds of marijuana.

“He is in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on the 3rd of April.”

The last matter concerned a 39 year old male from one of the villages at Aana who is in custody over possession of narcotics.

According to Su’a, the police raided his house last Wednesday.

“The police got a tip that someone was growing marijuana at his home at one of the villages in Aana,” said Su’a.

“They (police) got a search warrant from the court to allow them to search the accused resident.

“They went over and found two containers that were used by the accused to grow these.

“The other container contains of 24 marijuana and the other container had 40 so altogether police found 64 marijuana at the accused resident.

“He is in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on the 3rd of April.”
