A landslide on the east coast of Upolu interrupted traffic momentarily yesterday morning.

The landslide blocked a section of the east-coast road of Upolu, heading from Apia towards Piula.

What triggered the landslide, which brought down massive boulders of rocks, could not be confirmed.

It led to delays with the road blocked as authorities tried to clear the debris.

The Police were immediately involved and diverted traffic for a brief moment.

The incident occurred between the villages of Luatuanu’u and Solosolo.

According to the Disaster Management Office, members of the public need to be aware as there are still risks when driving along the area.

“Large boulders are still present on the roadside and therefore we would like to remind the public to be cautious when travelling along this route,” D.M.O said.

The debris had been cleared at press time last night.
