A near fatal incident at Lelata yesterday evening landed a woman who was on a scooter at the Moto’otua hospital. She was hit and run over by a Terios vehicle.

James Brokenshire saw the incident and helped the injured woman. He said he was driving behind the scooter and they were both heading down from Motootua.

“I was basically two cars back and the car that was at fault was pulling out of the side road. They did not see the scooter driver and just drove over on top of her."

“There are black tyre marks on her and you could see it on her skin, on her face and on her shoulder. There was blood coming out of her nose and mouth."

“It looked like she had a head injury and people were trying to move her off the road but I said to just leave her there. Don’t touch her, wait until she gets a neck brace on before she gets moved but she could feel her toes and her feet.”

The Samoa Observer found James at the hospital; he went there with his partner to see how the scooter driver was doing.

“She has got chest pains because of the tyre and she has been taken in for an x-ray. She is very lucky that she has not been seriously injured,” he said.

He added that the victim was thankful for his help.

“The people wanted to get the cars through and they were trying to drag her off the road but I said no, don’t touch her leave her there."

“I was trying to get the locals to control the cars but they were all just watching and it took a while for it to get organized before the Police arrived. It was a bit of chaos with the traffic jams and people were trying to squeeze around."

“But she was talking to me while lying down and she was quite responsive, she was not panicking and it was good.”

James is from New Zealand and he is in the country for a holiday with his partner.
