The village of Gagaifolevao, Lefaga welcomed 27 new titleholders of the Sā Su’a family during a colorful and elaborate ceremony last Saturday.

There were five different Chiefly titles that were bestowed. This includes the High Chief title Su’a, along with four orator titles Tiumalu, Vaofusi, Leautulagi and Tolumaanave.

Among those who were bestowed the Su’a chiefly title was Police Commissioner Fuiavaili’ili Egon Keil, Chief Executive Officer of Agriculture and Fisheries Tilafono David Hunter.

Prior to the traditional formalities, the titleholders were blessed by Rev. Ruperake Petaia of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa in Gagaifolevao. He urged the new titleholders to take their role seriously. “Being a leader comes with great responsibilities, not only to families, but to the village and churches.

“You have been chosen to become leaders of your family and that means you are responsible to lead your families to great things,” he said.

“Being a leader is a calling and it plays a very important role in our everyday lives.

“Honesty and Love are the most important key factors in the role that you are now carrying.”
