Family desperate for running water

Tino Samoa of Saleapaga and his family are desperate for a proper running water supply.

They are one of the families who have been forced to relocate after the tsunami of 2009.

But since they moved, they have been struggling to get water up to where they live

“We moved up here in 2009 and from then on, we were given water tanks to start with,” the Village Voice team was told.

“Our water tank’s main source of water is from the rain so if there’s no rain, we pay for a vehicle to make it easier for us to go down and fetch water from families in the inner area or the ones close to the coastal areas.

“Because unlike us, they still have a good water system.”

According to Tino, all the water tanks were donated by the government and other Good Samaritan organisations.

“This project was done right after the tsunami that affected some of us and that’s why we were given water tanks as a start so they can work things and make a plan regarding water pipes and all that for our water system but after the very beginning; we’ve never heard from them anymore. So we don’t know really know where everything about this project went.

“Also, there was suppose to be a water truck that delivers water up here for our water tanks but lately we haven’t seen it come around anymore.

“That’s why we struggle now because it’s not an easy job to find ways to fetch water to fill out water tanks especially since we live so high up here where the government’s water cannot reach.

“I mean as much as I love how it feels safe up here from natural disasters, it’s still a difficult life without water and I just think back to the time when everything was easier because we all have taps and water When there’s no water, it is very difficult for people to cope, according to Tino.

“Without water; we don’t know how to make our food, we don’t know where we’re going to shower the next and where to get water for our bathrooms and all that. You don’t want to live a life without water because you will not only struggle in surviving but also living an unhealthy lifestyle.

Therefore Tino humbly pleads “We need to get this water issue a solution because this is not the life we want.”
