Common sense can make it work

Dear Editor,

Thank you editor for your editorial about the Faleolo International Airport.

It does not have to be hard work if the Airport Authority would offer incentives as part of its development programme to new airlines (regional airlines).

For example, no landing fees for a period of say five years, lower departure tax for particular countries (USA, NZ, Australia) it wants to attract the tourists from, offer an incentive for re-fueling, and a few other incentives.

While the revenues will not be as high as a normal customer would pay, but the new revenues (incremental revenues would outweigh the extra cost) will add value to its economy, growth, and more jobs.

Wouldn’t it be nice if by the time they have completed the new arrival terminal the Airport Authority would announce something like Hawaiian Air will commence a weekly flight between Apia and Honolulu starting on a certain date or Tahiti Nui will have a weekly flight between Tahiti and Samoa effective when. Needless to say, there are a few options available and it would take someone like the P.M. to make it work.
