Their love story began in 2013, but it was over even before it begun, with the couple going their separate ways.

Three years later they met up again and fell in love, and this time it was for real. But Eddie Gafo and Daldrienne Taylor had another love in their lives—which perhaps was a big factor in uniting them as a couple—sports.

Ms. Taylor loves being on the football pitch and is a soccer player, while Mr. Gafo is a former captain of the Marist rugby league side and a gold medal-winning bodybuilder. Today, he is a supervisor at the JP fitness gym, though he already has a public profile, thanks to his cameo appearance on the famous CCK television advert known as Mika.

After two years of courting, the couple tied the knot last Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Mulivai witnessed by families and friends, with a reception at the Tanoa Tusitala Hotel following the wedding.

Speaking to the Samoa Observer, the newly-wed couple recounted how the groom got on his knees on Memorial Day last year and proposed.

Mrs. Gafo said: “A year into our relationship, Eddie proposed and we have been planning the wedding a year and several months.”

Her husband remembers the day vividly like it was yesterday, and how he proposed to his wife-to-be.

“It was Memorial Day and I had made reservations at the hotel for dinner—all the restaurants were closed it was a holiday.

“After dinner, I got on one knee and asked her to marry me, an emotional moment, even more so when she said yes! She made me the happiest man alive,” he said.

The couple will have their honeymoon in New Zealand and plan to travel the world after that.

When they were asked how they settled on the date of their wedding, they both said they love December as it is known to be a month for weddings.

“We just love Christmas so everything about December is just lovely for us. Everyone is merry-making (and) people are having fun. Even the surrounding is magical with all the Christmas lights and other forms of embellishments. Indeed, December is magical,” added Mrs. Gafo.

Mr. Gafo is the son of Methodist Reverend, Faavevela and Koriana Gafo and his wife is the daughter of Muliagatele and Heather Taylor.
