The Tofilau Eti Alesana Building became a hive of activity last night with the first unofficial count of the General Election.

The day before, it was just as busy with election officials turning up to collect their forms, ballot boxes and hear final instructions before voting day.

Alaiseā Silulu, was among them. As a first time election official, she said she was excited about being involved in the election.

“It’s a huge responsibility for me,” said Silulu.

Coming from Aiga ile Tai constituency, Silulu led her team at the Salamumu-tai polling booth. It was one of several booths for the Gagaemauga No. 2 seat.

“I am very excited to be selected to join this team. It’s a great opportunity to be part of the election. I feel privileged and honoured.”

Sine Falana’i was another excited official. It was also her first time being involved in an election.

“I am glad that I am able to work on this day, I am ready to serve Samoa,” said Falana’i

Satalo Ieremia Te’o shared Falana’i’s excitement. “It’s an opportunity to serve Samoa,” she said. “Being an H.R.P.P supporter, I am very happy that I got this opportunity to play a big role in the General Elections of 2016.”

Leiui To’oto’o Tauave and her partner Moauli Fuimaono are strong supporters of the H.R.P.P.

“I am supporting the H.R.P.P because I am working for the government,” said Tauave. The officials – including Police officers – manned the election booths from early morning until 3pm yesterday. They then had to take the ballot boxes to Mulinu’u where the count was held.
