Meet Natasha Fea. The 30-year-old hails from the village of Sauano, Fagaloa.

The mother of five says she puts her family first despite the struggles of not having money most times.

“I prefer living in the rural areas,” she said.

“If you want to live in town, you must have lots of money to provide for the family and children because life in Apia is all about money.

“But in the rural areas, we survive off the land and the sea as well.”

Natasha’s family still don’t have electricity. They rely on candles and a kerosene lamp at night.

“Our biggest wish is to get electricity,” she said.

“We do the work providing for our children even though we all know that life nowadays is not easy anymore but we try our best for our children.

“We have no one currently employed in my family. So we struggle a lot.”

Natasha said even getting her children to school is a battle.

“One of the hardest parts for us is getting our children to school every day and after school. But we try to manage our time wisely that one of us has to be with our kids before and after school.

“Especially when they are young and we know nowadays our country is not safe anymore.

“We depend on the land for food; the little we make within our family is not enough for everything we need. It’s just too expensive to purchase goods from shops

“We have basic food but sometimes we don’t have money at all.

“For me, money is not very important. Only when we have family fa’alavelave.”

Over all, despite the struggles, Natasha said they are coping.

“That’s how life is; we don’t have to complain.

“God gave us land to develop to make money to satisfy the needs of our family and for the future of our children.”
