The first Teachers’ Day Pageant will be celebrated with much joy thanks to support from Bluesky Samoa and Business Systems Limited.

The companies have joined forces to provide a donation of $20,000 and in kind prizes, which was presented to the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture yesterday.

“Our Teachers deserved to be recognized and this is a way for them to showcase their talents and most importantly to discuss issues affecting educators – all to which can only be brought to light with the help of our partners, therefore thank you Bluesky Samoa & BSL for supporting the Teachers of Samoa,” said M.E.S.C A.C.E.O. Tauti Fa’atamali’i Jenny Lauano.

The Mr and Miss Teachers’ Pageant will start at 5pm today at the C.C.C.S Hall in Sogi, with entry being free for everyone.

Two teachers from each district were nominated to represent in three categories of talent, interviews and teachers’ wear, an initiative put together by M.E.S.C.

“I was raised by teachers, my parents were both teachers, for C.C.C.S Secondary College and then later on for Samoa College,” said Bluesky’s Country Manager, Alex Abraham.

“Bluesky staff too have once had (in their lives) teachers as influencers. Therefore we understand the hard work that goes into teaching and investing into the lives and minds of our young children and youth.”

Pageant contestants had to introduce themselves during yesterday’s partnership sponsor launch.

The contestants come from all around Samoa, some hailing from the rural villages of Upolu and Savai’i and have been teaching for more that 30 to 40years.

“As Samoa’s Superior Network we understand the importance of today’s classroom in every village of Samoa, to require high speed and (most importantly) consistent internet connection to assist with learning and development, we are proud to say Bluesky currently services Samoa with 90% of their sites now being 4G. ”

The day’s programme kicks off at 8.30am with stall booths selling items catering to students and teachers.

There, B.S.L and Bluesky will be selling stationery and discounted prepaid Internet devices such as dongles, mifi’s and 4G Routers.

There will also be Free Student Sim Cards where students get 1GB of free data for every $6 eCharge and most importantly sim cards available for teachers where they can receive free data upon sign up. This is then followed by the Mr & Miss Teachers Pageant at 5pm, where you can expect tons of fun & laughter.

“Bluesky wishes all contestants the best of luck; your Bluesky Family along with our Partners B.S.L will support you all the way,” said Mr. Abraham.
