DUBLIN (AP) — Lock Devin Toner and center Garry Ringrose have been ruled out of Ireland's match against Scotland in the Six Nations.

Toner aggravated an ankle injury and Ringrose's hamstring tightened during the 32-20 loss to England last Saturday at Lansdowne Road.

Both starters were ruled out on Tuesday.

However, the Irish Rugby Football Union said wing Keith Earls trained on Tuesday after he was replaced in the England game because of a hip injury.

No. 8 CJ Stander was already out due to facial fractures.

Ireland has built depth since the lack of it was exposed in the 2015 Rugby World Cup quarterfinal exit, and coach Joe Schmidt's options were wide for the test on Saturday at Murrayfield.

Even with locks Iain Henderson and Tadhg Beirne injured as well, James Ryan's new partner could be Quinn Roux or Ultan Dillane, who have nine and 11 caps respectively. Munster lock Billy Holland, given one cap three years ago, also joined the camp this week.

Ringrose could be replaced by Robbie Henshaw, who played his preferred fullback position against England but has played mostly at center for Ireland. Usual fullback Rob Kearney was close to full fitness. Chris Farrell and Will Addison were also midfield possibilities.
