Find what you’re passionate about and do it - Vao
Working is a part of life.
And when you find work that suits your strengths, you are on the right path.
For 44-year-old Vao Fapiano Laititi from Tanumapua and Vaimoso, he is a driver.
“I drive and that is what I’m good at,” he tells the Village Voice.
“I have been a taxi driver for a long time until my taxi broke down.
“Of course I wanted to fix it straight away, but I come from a family who don’t really have much and fixing this taxi was very expensive.
“I couldn’t do anything about it because I couldn’t afford it.
Vao is a father to six children and he stays with his wife at his in-laws place at Tanumapua.
“It’s been two months since I’ve been away from the driving life.
“All I can do to try and support my family at the meantime; is growing crops such as taro and bananas in our plantation.
“As you came today, I was trying to make some space in the plantation to start growing cabbages and cucumbers.
“I’m not used to sitting around and not do anything; I’m used to the working life.
“I can’t rest knowing that my family needs something to survive on every single day.
“That is the very reason why I worked as a taxi driver in the first place because it’s the only job I know I could do.
“And also I love driving; I know everything about being a driver because it’s what I’ve been doing for so many years and I have been experiencing it as long as I could rememeber.
“I want to work again as a driver and that is what I want to make a request on.
“If I’m ever given an opportunity to be a driver for any ministry or any organization, I will do my best to deliver successfully and be on time.”
