Safety first at Oceania Gas

Staff at Oceania Gas, Vaitele, have received their certificates for completing Essential Emergency First Aid training as given by the Samoa Red Cross Society.

The training was given over three Saturdays and was funded by Oceania Gas.

“This training is on first aid and C.P.R. information - it is vital that our staff know this,” said Andy McCallum, Country Manager, Oceania Gas.

“We are very proud to have put so many staff members through this course and while we hope they never need to use it, we know that they will take this knowledge back to their homes and villages and who knows, this knowledge may save a family member or friend.

“We decided to do this after several incidents in Samoa last year where C.P.R. could possibly have saved a life. We thought it well worth the cost to get as many of our staff trained as possible. It is also pleasing to have such a good local provider in Samoa Red Cross. Knowing the funds stay locally to help their efforts is a bonus.”

Essential Emergency First Aid is the main first aid course offered by the Samoa Red Cross Society for workplaces, also known as Commercial First Aid. This training is not limited to workplaces but to any individuals or groups who would like to learn about life-saving skills to help a work colleague, a friend and especially within their own families and homes.

Aiolupotea Goretti Wulf, Senior Pacific First Aid Instructor at Samoa Red Cross, said Oceania Gas has been part of this training for some years now.

“This is done every two years to comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Act,” she said.

In Samoa Oceania Gas employs 15 full time staff, servicing many businesses, homes and individuals with L.P.G., industrial gases, welding equipment and tools, safety and clothing gear, fire extinguishers and L.P.G. installations and equipment.

Oceania Gas recently changed names from the well known B.O.C. Samoa name but will continue to be Samoa’s key L.P.G. supplier and the exclusive distributor of B.O.C. products such as industrial gasses, welding equipment and safety supplies in the region.
