Great fun at Teuila stage

The celebrations of the 27th annual Teuila Festival continued yesterday, with various cultural activities and demonstrations of traditional entertainment taking place in front of the government building. Hundreds of locals and visitors gathered there to enjoy the festivities.

Since it was established in 1991, Samoa’s Teuila Festival has grown to become one of Samoa’s most celebrated annual events, and one of the South Pacific’s biggest cultural festivals.

This year, the Festival promises to deliver a week of fun and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy, and for visitors to try a variety of local Samoan style cuisine.

The visitors the Samoa Observer spoke with were clearly impressed.

“I love Samoa,” said Jason from the United States of America. “This place is off the charts. It is not too commercialised and it is perfect for me.”

Lewis Thurs from Wales agrees.

“I’ve been impressed by what I’ve seen so far,” he said. “It’s good to have a festival where you can find most things in one place.”

The highlight yesterday morning was the traditional sports activities and the food stalls. Samoan handicrafts, and printed lavalava were also displayed.

The stalls open from early morning and remain open during the events that are taking place in the evening at the main Teuila Stage, in front of the government building.

The Teuila Festival is named after the national flower of Samoa -- the teuila, a species of ginger flower. Here are some of the photos from the main stage at Ele’ele Fou yesterday.
