Pinktober may be over, but the race to spread awareness about cancer is still on.

Thanks to Samoa Breweries Ltd, through their collective efforts they were able raise more than $1,000 for  the Samoa Cancer Society. 

They hosted a family day and fundraiser at the Tuana’imato soccer fields that was jam packed with activities for the kids as well as free food. 

The coordinator of the event , Piuiki Matautia, elaborated ,“In Vailima we have a Health, Safety and Environment development (H.S.E).  So every year we try to promote health, safety and the environment.“

“Last year we chose the Cancer Society but we did it within the company, we didn’t do it as something like this.” 

This year, we wanted to promote the awareness, but because we were quite busy within the office,  we wanted to bring out each family within Vailima to come out and have fun for a day.   

We just integrated it and called it a family fun day while at  the same time promoting cancer awareness. “

“We sold tickets within the Vailima family. It was $1 a ticket but you get everything for free and you get the kids out and have fun for the day. “

The Samoa Cancer Society staffat the event set up a booth  to offer information pamphlets and brochures to the families.  

The Executive Officer, Shelley Burich, was in attendance to receive the donation on behalf of the organization .  

 “We’re just happy to have the opportunity to create awareness so people can come and see the brochures and pamphlets and the work that we do.

But more importantly it’s about cancer.  

We’re always looking for an opportunity like this and we’re really happy they’ve chosen our charity as the lucky recipient.”

The day was jam packed with food and fun and not even bad weather conditions could stop the party. 

The programme started with a walk-a-thon around the Tuana’imato area and finished off with some upbeat cardio mix music and then straight into activities for the kids.

The Tuana’iamto soccer field turned into every kid’s fantasy with two colorful bouncy houses,  a magical face paint artist, and volleyball and soccer.   

The adults looked on as they chatted with their work mates while sipping a coconut or eating a fresh hotdog and  jamming to the music.
