The Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa (S.R.O.S.) has assured the public that the miniature bottles displayed at the recent Samoa Whiskey launching is only for promotional purposes.  

The Government banned the selling and manufacturing of liquor bottles that had less than 500 milliliters content in June this year. But the appearance of the miniature bottles at the recent launching of Samoa Whiskey raised eyebrows. 

However, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of S.R.O.S., Dr. Seeseei Molimau-Samasoni, told Samoa Observer that “it is not for sale”.

Minister of Revenue and chair of the Liquor Board, Tialavea Tionisio Hunt, told this newspaper that liquor bottles with content below 500 milliliters will not be sold. 

“And there is no more liquor bottles underneath 500 milliliters. The S.R.O.S. is well aware of the law that was in effect in June, 2018 and I am certain the mini bottles are for displaying and promotional purposes only,” he said. 

The Samoa Whiskey brand was launched by S.R.O.S. at the Taumeasina Island Resort and is made out of taro, the first of its kind in the world and is produced in Samoa.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sa’ilele Malielegaoi praised the product and its name, saying it will also promote Samoa around the world. 

He said it is the new product that will provide income generation opportunities for local taro farmers and producers alike.
