Female weightlifter Sikolasitika Isaia has secured Samoa her first medal at the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu. Isaia competed in the 58kgs division last night.

The 16-year-old is a Chanel College student and has only been lifting just over a year.

Speaking to the Samoa Observer, Coach Tuaopepe Jerry Wallwork said he was surprised.

“We didn’t expect a medal from Sikolositika,” he said.

“It was tough but I was very impressed she came out and fought to win silver.”

The weightlifting coach says he expects Samoa to put on a great performance while in Vanuatu.

“We expect many more medals. Our aim is many Gold medals and we will strive to achieve it today and tomorrow,” he added.

Today, Nevo Ioane will step onto the stage and will later be followed by Don Opeloge at 6pm.

After today, eight more will follow suit throughout the week.
