The Chamber of Commerce has been invited to take up the Commissioner General role for Samoa’s participation to the World expo 2020.
The invitation came from the Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).
The World Expo will be held from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021 in Dubai.
This 2020 world expo is centred around the theme “connecting minds; creating the future” on the realisation that current global need to work together to inspire future generations and to develop partnership across sectors; organisations and geographies to address the many needs of the fast changing world.
There are 3 sub themes; opportunity; mobility and sustainability representing critical drivers of global progress.
Samoa has chosen the opportunity sub theme and will be based in the opportunity village.
There are 192 participating countries around the world to showcase their countries; exhibit their identities; cultures and private sectors.
This is an opportunity for Samoa to show the world what it has to offer as a destination for tourism; investment; international events; sports; its private sector and products amongst many others.
SCCI is grateful to the government of Samoa through MFAT for the opportunity to lead the coordination for Samoa’s participation to the world expo 2020 to be held in Dubai.
“This is a significant undertaking from the SCCI; it will require the support of its private sector organisations; businesses; government agencies to deliver and capitalise on the opportunity to market our country and our private sector to the world,” said the President of the Samoa Chamber of Commerce, Jennifer Ula-Fruean.
The President attended together with the assigned Deputy Commissioner General Nella Levy of MFAT representing the Government of Samoa to the 2 day 3rd International Planning Meeting for the Expo 2020 in Dubai.
The President also during this time signed Samoa’s participation to the Expo 2020 agreement with the Bureau Expo 2020 the organisers for the world expo 2020.
