New coach well supported

Namulauulu Alama Ieremia has been named as the new coach of the Manu Samoa. The announcement was made by the Samoa Rugby Union recently. Namulauulu has played for the All Blacks and Manu Samoa. He has also coached Super 15 rugby, having been a key part of the Wellington Hurricanes franchise for a couple of seasons. Do you think the Samoa Rugby Union has made the right call? Deidre Fanene asked in today’s Street Talk and this is what people said:

The Samoa Rugby Union has made the right decision in appointing Alama as the new coach. As a former Manu Samoa and All Blacks player, he knows what is required to win at international level. We all know that the Manu Samoa has a lot of work to do but I’m confident Alama has what it takes to improve the team’s performance.

I support the appointment. Namulauulu understands what needs to be done for the development our team. I think he is the best person for the job because of his knowledge of Samoan rugby and the fact that he has been part of the team set up for the past couple of years.

He deserves a chance to prove himself. As a player, we all know that he has proven himself but we need to see if he can do the same thing as a coach. For that to happen, we need to at least give him a chance. I also believe he is the right person to help to manage the finances of the Union because that is one of the major issues in the Union.

I think there will be some massive changes within the Manu Samoa in terms of their performance on the field because of Alama. He has served the country for so long and I believe that he has the heart for the Manu Samoa. I know for a fact Alama has the experience and the knowledge to coach at the highest level but most importantly he loves his people.

This is all for the betterment of our team and I think the Samoa Rugby Union has picked the right person for the job. I have no doubt that our team will do better this year under Alama’s leadership. Go Al!

I’m glad that a Samoan is coaching the team. I’m sure Alama understands the system and he knows how passionate we are about the sport. Alama is well groomed, he is physically and mentally qualified for the job. I know he was part of the previous set up but this is now his chance to prove himself and improve our ranking.
