“It’s a great way of earning money because I know I make more money than other people who work.”

Meet Simone Sulusi a 24-year-old father of two from the village of Solosolo.

 “This is what I do for a living,” he said. “I create my own designs and I sell them to help my family and especially two kids.

“I sell different kinds of designs and I even do designs for jandals and other handicrafts.”

Mr. Sulusi went on to say that nowadays cost of living is skyrocketing and so it is difficult for people to live and get by every day.

“Life is expensive and there’s no doubt about that but it’s how we deal with the problem that’s important,” he said.

“As for me even though I know that life is so hard I still always think of ways to earn money and this is one of them.

“I have been doing this for years now because I learned this from school at Leififi College and my visual art teacher taught me all that I know right now.

“After school I couldn’t afford to go to N.U.S. so I started doing my own designs and tried it out and at first it was hard but I never gave up because I know this is what I love to do.

“After years of trying it out it finally came through and I tell you I am enjoying what I do.”

So how much does he make from selling designs?

“If the week is good I get $500tala and another time I was able to make $1200 from an order by a couple from Hawaii who loved my designs.

“This is a living proof that we can all make a living from something.  We just need to get up and go look for that something.

“Another thing as well is use your talent because that talent will help you provide for your family and your children.

“I started from the bottom and now after years of struggling and practicing I can do it and it’s great money.”

“So what does he do with his money?

“Well I firstly prioritise my children I make sure they have everything they need for the week and the basic needs of home as well.

“Then I take away the money that we need to do our church commitments and the rest we use it to buy more papers for my designs.

“I know life is hard but there’s nothing we can do about it because its just the way it is.

“We just need to have the courage to find something that will help us provide for our families but we should never sit and complain because we will never get anywhere.”
