Sunday wedding on the Gaualofa

Love is the greatest gift God has ever given to mankind; its power could even be manifested in the simplest places.

For Tasesa Fuitativa and Ane Mateai, they have found this love in each other.

And on Sunday, they made the ultimate promise to cherish and love each other forever at an unusual place, on a boat.

The venue for the simple wedding was on the Gaualofa Va’a at the Matautu Wharf. The couple chose the venue carefully.

“We wanted a wedding that involved our fa’asamoa and for it to be simple. This is the simplest and most outstanding way that we could do it,” they said.

The couple acknowledges the help of the Aiga Folau Samoa Crew who allowed them to use the boat.

“It’s a dream come true to have our wedding on the Gaualofa Canoe.

“It has made it a traditional wedding; it is going back to our humble beginnings of who we are.

“We never thought it would turn out this way. It feels like a million dollar wedding but it is not much. We feel very humbled.”

The Gaualofa crew played a big role.

The Gaualofa Crew has really surprised us with the decoration of the whole canoe but we didn’t expect it.

“They have been very supportive of the idea.”

Ane is from Salelologa while Tasesa is from Samauga, Savai’i.
