The Titans Touch Club hosted a first of its kind tournament in Samoa called “Turbo Touch Tournament” last month.

The Titans Pinktober Turbo Touch Tournament was held at the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum with Samoa Police Services in both the Men’s and Women’s Division.

Turbo Touch is a modified version of Touch Rugby that combines several sports together such as Netball, Athletics and Rugby.

Played either indoors or outdoors, Turbo Touch has 5 players on the field and using a touch rugby ball, which is passed forward and backward much like netball. The players can stand anywhere on the field.

“It’s a really simple game. The Police only took 3 minutes of demonstration and they were pros. It was so great to see how well everyone enjoyed Turbo,” Titans President, Gabrielle Apelu remarked.

“We knew we wanted to support Pinktober in a way that was both still touch rugby but more catered to those who haven’t really played touch before.”

The final for the Men’s was hard fought between the Samoa Police Services and Showtime. Samoa Police Services eventually securing the win 11-6

The Women’s final was also an epic battle between the Samoa Police Services and the Mini Pumbas with the Police force showing their might in a 6 – 4 victory.

“The Titans Pinktober Turbo Touch Tournament is part of multiple fundraising activities for the club with the aim to attend the Fiji Kava Cup this year.

We are blessed to be the only Women’s Club in all of Samoa.

Our job is to ensure the girls that come into our team are looked after and developed to the best of their ability in an environment that encourages and supports them.

“The end goal is 2019 where we hope once trials commence we can produce quality players for national selection.

We have been working hard for two years to fundraise to attend overseas competitions so our players can develop in not only athletic ability but also in administration and organisational skills.”

The Titans would like to thank the following for making The Titans Pinktober Turbo Touch Tournament a success: Robert Louis Stevenson Museum, Tanoa Hotel, Bluesky, UN Women, EMD, Vailima, JP’s Fitness, The Bean Café and NRL in Samoa.
