The critical role of mothers

Mothers are role models for their children and they are known to make the impossible possible.

This is the belief of a mother of five, Marlene Aukusitino, 34, from the village of Leulumoega.

She said being a mother was not an easy task but their work reflected on their children’s well-being.

“A mother’s performance is reflected in their children and the way they behave outside of their house, especially in church and education.

“A mother is the only person in the family her kids will run to if they go through difficulties in life.”

Mrs. Aukusitino also mentioned the significance of a mother’s role within Samoan families.

“Mothers are the ones who are always at home doing everything for the children and the father of the family.

“Washing, cooking, cleaning and feeding the family are all mothers roles within their house in trying to make everything perfect for their families, and making sure the kids are there with them.

“Mothers should make sure that their children are safe and in school in order to stop them from involving themselves in issues happening lately in our country.”

Mrs. Aukusitino added the reason issues erupted from other families was because the mother is not setting her priorities straight.

“Most issues happening today with young daughters in our country reflect the carelessness of their mothers.

“The mother is supposed to know everything happening within the household but sure these ones do not.

“We as mothers should step up our game and make sure that our children, especially young girls, are safe around our houses and let’s push them at school too.”
