Ministry of Finance rejects further $10 M. Prison proposal

The Ministry of Finance has flatly rejected a proposal for an additional $10 million for the second phase of the Tanumalala Prison facility. The rejection was confirmed by the Minister of Prison Services and Corrections, Tialavea Tionisio Hunt, in response to questions from the Samoa Observer. “It was flatly denied by the Ministry of Finance,” he said adding that “they only approved $2.9 million.”

A video has surfaced of armed young man ransacking the Salelologa Market as trouble on the big island unfolds. The video shows a mother trying to collect her products – which appear to be a cooler of ice cakes – as a group of young men walk through the market in a threatening manner. Some are armed with sticks while one man is carrying a gun.

Savai’i residents heading to the wharf to board the Lady Samoa were stuck in traffic as the road was blocked between Salelologa and Salelavalu this morning. According to reports out of Savai’i; men between Salelologa blocked the road near Salelavalu. Rocks were reportedly thrown.
