An inquest into the death of a one year old baby from Siumu was called in the District Court this week.

The mother of the newborn baby girl took the stand recalling what happened in May this year.

Seu Seana told the Court it was a public holiday on the 28th May, 2016 when she went to another families house to do her washing.

She has seven children including the deceased baby.

According to the mother her brother had came to pick up the washing and drove back to their house.

“After he left the washing at the house he reversed the car to leave but did not know the baby was at the back,” the mother told the Court.

“We took her to hospital but she died on arrival. It was my negligence that had caused the death of my child that was born from my stomach.”

The mother added that her baby daughter is buried infront of their house at Siumu.

She explained her brother has been charged for the death of her daughter where he pleaded guilty to negligent driving causing death.

District Court Judge and Coroner, Vaepule Vaemoa Va’ai adjourned the matter until the 20th July for his decision.
