Saini Lui, aged 28 from the village of Utuali’I, is currently living a very happy life with her husband and children.

Living in the village may be tough for some, but through hard work, Saini’s family has proven that life can be great if you aren’t lazy.

“Right now life is just great with my family,” she told the Village Voice.

“My husband, children and I live off of the sea. We just moved to this land not long ago.”

Asked if there was anything their family needed, Saini replied.

“The only thing our family needs is just water,” she said.

“We have already registered for a water tank but we are just waiting for the water office to drop it off; but all the paper work is done.

“Water is too important not to have.”

When asked if they receive any help from anyone with everyday life, Saini replied.

“The village council is very helpful but most of the time my family lives on our own strength,” she said.

“We haven’t received any help from the government. My husband and I have been together for about five years now.

“After a fishing trip we measure the fish and we can get about $100 a day and that will get us over $500 a week. So I would say that life is pretty ok for us.”

What about our countries leadership, what do you think of them?

“I really admire the government and all the work they have done,” Saini said.

“There are many people who claim that there is poverty in Samoa but for me, people only live in poverty if they do not work.

“There isn’t anything free in this world and we need to work to live.”
