Learn to plan ahead

Dear Editor,

Re: Desperate families on White Sunday

Thank you for your story on families loaning money for White Sunday in yesterday’s paper.

I loath this day because I work alongside Pacific Families here in NZ that always suffer the aftermath of White Sundays. Part of my work is to discuss finance/loans/debts etc. Why they borrowed so much money and how are they going to pay it back?

One of the most important solutions is to change the mindset and plan ahead. I know it’s a palagi concept but it’s a concept that Pacific Families in NZ (this will benefit Samoa too) need to adapt and take on board. They already knew that White Sunday is happening every year in October.

Start putting money aside for the next one when this one is done and dusted. Unless you win lotto then you don’t worry about it then.

But taking up loans to find this event is an option I advice my clients not to go there. Happy White Sunday!
