The relocation of the Vaitele Flea market closer to the Vaitele road proves to be a positive step for market vendors.

One such vendor, Apiseka Lokeni says the relocation has brought her many customers and an increase in sales.

The flea market was initially located where the Coin Save supermarket now stands.

“People mostly find it hard to shop where we used to be based at because they had to step out of their vehicles and walk all the way in to look for the certain goods they want.

“Most customers are searching for something that is convenient to them which allow them to save time and the hassle of walking all the way and there is nothing,” the mother of eight said.

The 55-year-old from Nu’u has been a market vendor at the Vaitele Flea Market for four years now and according to her, she has noticed the increase in customers.

“It is good now since we are closer to the road and we have a lot of people buying things from us, this has been a good change.

“I have eight children some of my kids are working, some are overseas and some are still at school. This is a big help to my family because not every day my kids who work would receive money, unlike me every day, there is always an income. More than a $100 a day is enough to buy a meal for everyone.”

The weather is her only challenge because it destroys most of her crops; however she still tries to sell whatever she gathers from her plantation.

During the festive season, Apiseka said she made good sales.

“I made good money during the holidays. I sell brooms and whatever that we basically find on our land. The year has just started, I am just observing if there would be a change from how 2017 was like.”
