Promoting a safe space is the theme for this year’s Youth Business Expo in Apia.

It will be marked with the celebration of the International Youth Day and Father’s Day in Samoa.

The event began with a march from the fire station to the front of the government building yesterday.

Ministry of Women, Community and Social Development (M.W.C.S.D.), Assistant C.E.O. for Governance, Latu Foti Afioga said their main goal is to provide a platform that is secure and safe for everyone to mark the two days as well as give market access to the participants.

“Secondly, to increase access to markets and provide alternative opportunities to sell, share and collaborate for small businesses development and also share information and formalise partners and networks for future developments,” Latu said.

“Not forgetting the provision of relevant information for youths and young people on the services available for their personal information and career development.”

The event is also an opportunity for public and private partners to provide information to the general public and schools that visit the safe place. The event is a joint initiative between the M.W.C.S.D. and partners, through the Samoa United Nations Youth Employment Project, including all government ministries and corporations.

Small business enterprises, mainly small businesses that were assisted by the Small Business Enterprise Centre, South Pacific Business Development, and M.W.C.S.D., will also be allocated space to sell their products and services and secure market opportunities or develop cooperatives with the commercial/large companies.

The event continues.
