Businesswoman, Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai, urged over 200 girls attending a conference to have long-term goals on what they want to achieve in life.

Speaking at the four-day Girls Leading Our World (G.L.O.W.) Conference at St. Therese, the President and C.E.O. of Samoa Stationery and Books spoke on the importance of education, having a career and her path to success.

“To actually tap into these girls at a very young age is very important. These girls needed to be instilled with the good values and also they need to be taught a lot of things at this young age so that when they grow up they become exceptional leaders.

“So getting people who are successful to come and talk to them will get them inspire to be like those who got the time to speak to them. I could see that the girls really grasp what I was trying to say and we have some really strong leaders coming out of this conference,” she said.

She encouraged the young girls to have long-terms goals and to always put God in all that they do as well as their plans.

“I wanted to tell them how great God is and how real he is. A lot of good things and works come from a good heart and the last part of my presentation is where I told them that they must always have a vision.

“And it also says in the Bible in Proverbs 29:18, it says where there is no vision people perish and George Washington also said ‘when there is no vision, there is no hope,” she added.

Sustainability and Public Relations Coordinator for G.L.O.W Samoa, Karen Anaya, said issues such as domestic violence were also discussed in the conference.

“This event was planned with every Samoan girl and woman in mind, so that they can reach their full potential and play vital roles in the prosperity of their families, communities, their country and the world,” she added.

The conference was an initiative of the American Peace Corps, the UN Women, UNDP and the Australian Government.
