The opening yesterday morning  of the ninth branch of the Samoa Commercial Bank at Siusega, was a special one.

It wasn’t just because the Keynote Address was delivered by the Prime Minister himself, Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi; or that there were special guests including the Minister of Agriculture, La’auli Leuatea Polataivao, Aiono Mose Su’a and Tuala Falani Chan Tung.

Supported by his mother and his siblings, staff and friends, the General Manager of S.C.B. Lemalu Ray Ah Liki said the day had special meaning for him because of the memories of his late father, Magi Westerlund.

“This is the area where we grew up,” he said simply, "so today is dedicated to him. He was our Patron and he played an important role in the business."

“He challenged us to work as hard as he did and we acknowledge his guidance in making us who we are today,” he said in reference to the other members of his family.

In addition to the nine branches of S.C.B. there is the main headquarters in Apia and four mini branches at Falealili, Aleipata, Lefaga and Manono.

“Those mini branches are open three days a week – on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays,” he said.

“Our company helps to provide jobs, ensure convenient service to the community and contribute to a healthy and vibrant economy.”

In his Keynote Address, the Prime Minister spoke on behalf of the people living in the area.

“I can imagine how pleased some people from the rural areas who are the clients here will be, as they find out this branch has opened."

“We no longer need to catch the bus to town for now this bank is right here to save your money."

“The building alone cannot infuse the vision and passion that guides the development of Samoa."

“It is the interaction between the business people and the customers which will make the difference and ensure the new building supports a higher level of development."

“The Samoa Commercial Bank must also devote itself to developing its service for the people of Samoa and with this ninth branch they had come so far."

“This is also a great opportunity to thank the S.C.B owner for the great effort and great development for our country."

‘”So today marks another milestone in the development of Samoa."

“This is a day of hope for the future, interwoven with good memories of the old days."

“This is a potent mix which will ensure S.C.B. continues to develop our country for tomorrow."

“Once again, congratulations to all and I wish everyone an unforgettable day.”

Lemalu’s mother did the honours cutting the ribbon, the premises were blessed and some of the guests took the opportunity to look inside the new premises.
