Between the lines

WE DON’T GET IT

How exactly does the Minister of Education’s suggestion of “implementing Christian values within families and villages” solve the situation of alarming numbers of students dropping out of school at an early age (under 14 years of age)?

Please explain because frankly if you think that is the answer to one of the  serious problems in  Education, maybe you should just concentrate on the Sports part of your portfolio ie rugby.

LIONS OR AB’S?

While some of us wanted the AB’s to win, at least we were not as emotionally involved as we would be if it was that OTHER team playing?

IN THIS AGE …

We know we shouldn’t have really been surprised, (but we were) to see that the mighty USA celebration of their July Independence Day (did we say that word independence?) had sponsors.

Or to put it delicately, “contributors”.

It’s hard enough for local sports, youth and charity organizations who do not have financial resources to call upon without having to compete for sponsorship against an embassy representing one of the richest countries in the world which advertises itself as a global leader to anybody who will listen.

DON’T YOU JUST LOVE IT?

You’ve got to chuckle when in a formal letter seeking to have the Pacific Games in Samoa now that Tonga has reneged on hosting, our P.M. adds a personal note sure to swing the vote our way.

He declares he will be entering Archery as an athlete to chase Gold particularly if the Games are held here in Samoa.

Now if that doesn’t swing it, we don’t know what will!
