The real problem

Dear Editor

Re: Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, the fulcrum on which the wheel is turning, turning!

It says the “Controller and Chief Auditor may conduct a yearly audit report on any examination or investigation” that he finds appropriate, and necessary.

The use of the word “may” means “a possibility” and suggests that it is “not a necessity” or “not necessarily.” Another use of the word “may” is the asking for permission to do so but to whom?

If no auditing has been carried out for the last 5 years then taxpayer’s money is wasted in this waste-of-a-time government department and “should” close down effective immediately.

It is only existing to keep up appearances to make it look like the government accounts are kept in good order.

The current P.M. is making a joke out of this Audit department as he has the Chief Auditor (his son-in-law) under his control.

If police cannot have a wife and husband in the same department then the Controller of the Finance (Father-in-law) and the Auditor of the Finance (Son-in-law) should not be so closely related.

The sad fact is the “truth” is being denied to all Samoans and is hidden from everyone except themselves.

So the people of Samoa do not know that the government is absolutely “broke or bankrupt” and are unable to respond.
