The children of the late Mu’a Lauina of Asau and Sataua and the late Talaleu Tufuga Masoe Sua of Asau, came together earlier this month for their family reunion.

Held at the Tofamamao, St Therese at Leauva’a, families from Australia, New Zealand and Samoa attended the three-day event.

Father Penitito Mauga conducted the service on the first day at the graveside. According to Mu’a and Talaleu’s daughter, Jacinta Vaisē, this is their second family reunion.

“The whole idea of the gathering was for our children and their children to get to know one another,” she said.

“Because you know this is why cousins end up together because they had never met each other.

“So it’s gathering such as these that help our children get to know one another. They also need to understand one another and know more about their grandparents and where they come from.

“Most of us have spread out to other countries, but we should never let go of families and never forget our roots and where we come from.

“This is an example that we, the children of Mu’a and Talaleu, are setting for our children so that when we pass on they will know and understand how things work.”

Ms. Vaisē added it had been a gathering of happiness.

“We had so many activities including games and family items from each family as well as the young generation,” she said.

“Our parents would have loved to see us come together and enjoy each other’s company and especially our children.

“We had a field trip at Manono as well and it was a day of fun and laughter.

“We intend to keep it this way and the next gathering will be on 2020.”

Mu’a and Talaleu have seven children, five are still alive and the twins have passed on.

This is their third generation. Mu’a passed away on October 1973 and Talaleu passed away in 1991.
