Samoa’s Commonwealth heroes teary upon arrival

Samoa’s golden weightlifters have returned. 

Feagaiga Stowers and Sanele Mao touched down at the Faleolo International Airport this morning.

They could not hold back their tears as they shared with the Samoa Observer their journey to scooping a gold medal each at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. 

Not only did they make the small nation of Samoa and their families proud, months of training served well for them because it was their first time to win a gold medal each in such a big event. 

“All glory goes back to God for helping me in my journey to the Commonwealth Games. I could not have done it without him. 

“Also to my family and the people of Samoa, thank you very much and this gold medal is for you,” Mao shared.
