HEALTH VISIT: Students of Loto Taumafai were assisted by the dentists of the National Health Services.

Dentists from the National Health Services (N.H.S) visited the Loto Taumafai School on Tuesday.

Principal Dental Officer, Dr. Ionatana Fa’atonu said the visit was in response to an invitation from the school.

The officials used the opportunity to assess dental health among students and promote the need to have healthier teeth.

“As we all know that children with special needs have equal rights and they deserve the best of dental care,” he said.

“So what we do for able bodied students we are also doing for the students of Loto Taumafai.

“This is the first time we have had a programme like this at Loto Taumafai and we are very happy to be here.”

Dr. Fa’atonu said they want to make the visit on a regular basis, not just to Loto Taumafai but to all the schools who deal with persons with a disability.

Principal of Loto Taumafai, Lagi Natanielu, welcomed the dental team.

“For us as, we are really blessed that for the first time such a service as what these guys are offering from N.H.S is a blessing to our children,” she said.

“A lot of these kids have really bad teeth so we are excited about having this programme conducted here for the first time and hopefully there will be more to come.”

Mrs. Natanielu said the school believes that healthier bodies lead to healthier minds.

“I’m just happy to see them get the treatment they need.

“It also makes the parents’ job easier because a lot of our children are from unprivileged families so they don’t have the means to see the doctor or dental care so it’s a blessing for them to be seen by the N.H.S today.”
