Teachers and students at Saoluafata Primary School were introduced to a Japanese Sports Festival called “Undokai” (pronounced ‘Un-doh-kye’).

Undokai is a various mix of fun games using all parts of the body.  These games involve running, jumping, pulling and so on.

Ten J.I.C.A. Volunteers assigned to schools around Samoa, along with the great assistance from Saoluafata Primary School Principal, Vaisuni Malio, Vice-Principal, Akenese Taumaoe and its primary teachers worked in helping to introduce each game to the excited students.

The participation from the eager students during the games made the day all the more fun for everyone.

One female student commented that she enjoys running.

Another male student said the sports day was very interesting for him and asked when the volunteers would come again so they could have another sports day like this.

J.I.C.A. Volunteer, Suzuka Kaneshiro, currently dispatched to Saoluafata Primary School, said the whole experience was a success and was very grateful to all the teachers and Principal for all their help during the sports programme.

She also wants to continue introducing ‘Undokai’ sports, to other primary schools around Samoa.
