A Memorandum of Understanding (M.O.U.) has been signed to facilitate funding assistance from the One U.N. family towards school fees for students to complete trade skills training.

The students are attending four technical and vocational schools, namely Don Bosco Upolu and Savaii, Laumua o Punaoa and Wesleyan College.

The Assistant Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Women Community and Social Development, Nanai Sofara Agaiava, acknowledged the U.N.D.P’s Youth Employment Programme (Y.E.P.) as well as the Fesoasoani Trust.

The grant will assist the technical centers to further the studies of these young youths so that in the future they can be able to find employment for them and support their families.

Nanai said the programme has already earmarked some 50 participants throughout the schools.

“Through this funding assistance, we want to help them complete their studies,” said Nanai.

He also urged the T.V.E.T programmes provider to make good use of the resources.

The heads of the T.V.E.T programmes welcomed the assistance.

“It is a very important project for Don Bosco and I’m sure for other schools too, and I thank you for this opportunity it will be very useful for our students,” said Brother Chris Ford of Don Bosco Alafua.

The principal of Laumua o Punaoa Technical Center at Faleula, Rev. Uale Misifosa, said this is the first time their school has received such a grant and he is extremely grateful.

Don Bosco Technical Center received US$20,000 (T$46,000), Laumua o Punaoa Methodist Technical Creative Center received US$12,000, Uesiliana Vocation Technical Center and Don Bosco Creative Vocational Technical Center both received US$9,000.
