The new Chief Executive Officer for the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is Tilafono David Hunter.

The appointment was confirmed by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi.

La’auli said the appointment of Tilafono was endorsed by Cabinet during its meeting this week.

Tilafono, who is currently C.E.O. for the Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa, replaces outgoing C.E.O. Fonoiava Seali’itu Sesega.

“The appointment supported the recommendation from the panel,” La’auli told the Samoa Observer.

“There were seven people shortlisted all of whom are highly qualified. I look forward to working with Tilafono and his plans in promoting other crops as well as working together with our farmers to meet the demand from export market.”

The Minister also acknowledged the work of Fonoiava during his three years contract with the Ministry.

La’auli said Fonoiava had made a big contribution in maintaining the food security of Samoa and developing the sector.

It was not possible to get a comment from Tilafono yesterday.
