Industry brainstorms in first Tourism, Travel night

The tourism and hospitality industry in Samoa gathered last week to brainstorm on ideas to improve the industry.

That was the goal of the first Tourism and Travel Industry Night, hosted by the Samoa Hotels Association (S.H.A.) at Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel last Wednesday.

Aside from hoteliers, other participants included owners of car rentals; restaurants, nightclubs; travel agencies; tour guides and government officials from the Samoa Tourism Authority.

S.H.A. President, Tupa’i Saleimoa Va’ai, said the idea is to open up conversations and provide a platform for members of the industry to socialise and discuss the way forward.

The event is set to become a monthly gathering.

“We want to hear the voice of our industry and at the same time share some time together so the people won’t be afraid to put in ideas and issues,” he said.

“Hopefully the board will have a better understanding about where everyone is at.”

Tupa’i said the event is an extremely important occasion for the Samoa tourism industry.

“The main reason is to let the industry know that we are open and we want inclusiveness with all the sector providers, who are contributing to the tourism sector.”

S.H.A. is also looking at a similar evening for Savai’i.
