Mother of Aleisa wishes for a water tank

If water is life as they say, Makerita Taumaoe, of Aleisa, needs your help.

The mother of seven told the Village Voice about her family’s struggles to find water as they don’t have a steady supply of running water where they live.

What she really needs is a water tank.

“We’ve had to face this problem for so many years now. We don’t get any water especially us who live in the bush. Our families living near the road access water but its hard for us.”

Fetching water with buckets and barrows is a daily task.

“This is one of the hardest jobs to do every day, collecting water and preserving water for my family. There are so many of us.”

The thirty-eight year old told the Village Voice the problem is an endless nightmare.

“Everyone in our village asks for help. We all know how important water is for our life.”

Makerita said even fetching water is difficult because they don’t have a car.

“We ask for help from one of our neighbors by using their car to get our water. Otherwise sometimes we just have to make do with whatever we have.”

Makerita hopes someday in the future they will have a water.

“We both don’t have jobs,” she said.

“The plantation is our only money maker. We have some of my family overseas send some money but they too have things to do. Makerita is also looking for a job.”

“Any kind of job,” she said. “We want to get our own water tank to store our water. If I can get a job then we can look at saving money to buy this tank.”
